Repetition Vs Iteration?
Most people use the words repetition and iteration interchangeably which is absolutely DUMB.
Repetition → doing the same thing over and over again.
Iteration → doing the same thing over and over again with some changes.
Just add some changes in each repetition and you get wildly different results after the 100th repetition iteration.
The main distinction between the two words is about how we treat outcomes of events. In iteration, the outcome of one event becomes a knowledge feedback loop of the next event which leads to more knowledge overtime ( compounded knowledge ). This is how machine learning works, all modern ai systems are based on this iteration theory of feedback loops.
The benefit of iteration is huge in discovering new ways to do things but repetition has it’s benefits too. Entire habit formation theory is based on repetition, which can inculcate discipline, harden the mould of thought process and even general heuristics in different occupations come from repetition.
It’s necessary to identify which mental model should be applied for which tasks in life. Sometimes people just assume that just doing the same thing over and over again will yield them unique or exceptional results, which doesn’t happen when they don’t go back to get the feedback from failed results, which contain the quintessential recipe for future success.
